Obituary for Darla Jean Anderson

Darla Jean Anderson (nee Streblow), 78, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on December 20th, 2023.

Darla was born in Oshkosh on April 15th,1945 to Carl and Virginia Streblow. She attended Oshkosh High School.

In 1965, Darla married Chris Anderson and they had their daughter, Chanda, before parting ways after 24 years of marriage.  Darla is also survived by her son Peter van Reyendam of Halifax, Pennsylvania.

Having a restless ambition, Darla opened up “Darla’s Not-So-Small Shop”, the first plus-size clothing store in the area, in 1974. Darla then worked at Social Services.  Ready for another change, she bought The Caramel Crisp Shop in downtown Oshkosh in 1989 and ran it along with Victorian Heart, an antique consignment store.  After closing Caramel Crisp, Darla went on to bring joy to many people while working at various facilities for older adults.  Darla’s dream was that Chanda would one day take over Caramel Crisp, which happened in 2007.

Darla, affectionately known to many as “Auntie Dar,” was always the life of the party and we will all dearly miss how she spiced up every family gathering with her good humor and sharp wit.  She loved being with her family and was deeply loved by them.

Darla is survived by her daughter Chanda (Pete Hodge) Anderson, her son Peter (Denise) van Reyendam, her brother Larry (Pam) Streblow, her brother-in-law Chuckie (special friend Gail) Mateyka, nieces and nephews Scott (Sandy) Mateyka, Amy (special friend Rob) Mateyka, Amanda (Marc) Lutz, and Adam (Alissa) Streblow, and grandchildren Emily (Ben) Noffke, Madison (fiance Sam) Hodge, Janelle (Jonah) Hughes, and Karissa van Reyendam.

Darla was preceded in death by her mother, father, and younger sister, Margie.

A celebration of life for Darla will be held Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.  Family and friends are welcome to gather and pay their respects at Caramel Crisp (200D City Center, Oshkosh) from 4-6 pm. Desserts will be served with lots of frosting!

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kim at Clarity Care.
