Obituary for Elsie Theresa Roth

The fish in heaven have to be more watchful now that Elsie Roth has left this plane for a higher one where trout streams run cold and swift and every cast promises a fish for the supper skillet.

Elsie Roth, 70, passed away on December 20 in Oshkosh after a short 4 months of battling cancer. She was the beloved partner of Christine Wagner. They shared 47 loving years together.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Tony and Ines Roth. Elsie was self-employed most of her life,  managing her own cleaning service for many years, but the Montello, WI community knew her best as the produce manager at Freitag’s Food Center.

Elsie enjoyed recalling her years living in Colorado and Texas but reveled in the joys of living on Montello Lake where she and Chris fished and laughed and made friends in the community. People will remember her humor, kindness, and generosity.

Just last year she ran for Fisherperson of Germania with a friend to help raise money for the Germania Community Development Association.  Always a good sport, Elsie donned a fish head and rode in the parade to solicit donations for the fund.

Elsie was a board member and the treasurer of the Montello Lake District for many years and advocated for the health of the lake for the benefit of lake district members. Whatever job she took on, she was diligent and gave her best.

Elsie was open to new ideas and enjoyed travelling and learning new things.  She was willing to lend a hand when needed and was always welcoming to others.

She is survived by Christine Wagner, lifetime partner; sister, Lorna Hauser (Al Hauser); brother, Roland Roth (Amy Woulf); Chris’s children, Tim Goheen (Alison), and Jeff Goheen; her niece and nephews; grandchildren; her many friends; and her beloved dog, Falcor. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no immediate funeral services held, but her family will have a private Celebration of Life in the summer.  When trout season opens this year, visit a stream and think of Elsie who we know is in a place where there are no seasonal limits for doing what you love.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers have been established by her family in her honor. We want to say a special “Thanks” to the staff at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh.
