Obituary for Frank Richard Houda

Frank R. Houda, 82, passed away in Oshkosh, WI on May 3, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1942, to Frank J. and Lorraine Houda.

Frank was a man who accomplished many things throughout his life. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and received his master’s degree in business from the University of Chicago. He began working for Morton International in high school and stayed with the company as an engineer until he retired in 2001. His career led him to work in many different countries and resulted in him being named on several patents in his industry.

Frank also enjoyed playing bass guitar in a band on weekends, flying his twin engine airplane, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and spending time on the water in his boat named GFG (Go Faster Grandpa!)  He was a lifelong resident of Wonder Lake and member of Christ the King Church where he served as a Knight of Columbus.  Most importantly, Frank was the most involved grandparent to his two grandchildren.  He never missed a band concert, swim meet, karate tournament or other important event.  Frank always had words of wisdom to share with his family and taught everyone he knew how to be kind, have fun, and make good choices.  He always put his family first.  Frank was the best father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his children, Michael Houda, and Teresa Parker (Mehrdad Kajian); and grandchildren, Haley Parker and Dakota Parker. He is further survived by his brother, Rick (Kathy) Houda; sister, Nancy (Jerry) Klahn; nephews, Chris Houda, Josh Houda, and Tim Muhl.   Frank is preceded by his parents, Frank J and Lorraine; and niece, Sherry Muhl.

A visitation will be held at Christ the King church in Wonder Lake, IL on Saturday June 8th from 9am – 11am followed by a funeral mass.  Donations in Frank’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
