Henry H. Ruehl, age 86, of Van Dyne, died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh. He was born on November 14, 1936, in Kenosha, WI, the son of Heinrich and Antonia Ruehl.
He grew up in Germany and became a semi-professional soccer player before returning to the states and joining the U.S. Army. In March of 1958, he married Jean Gallagher, in Kenosha, WI. In 1977 he moved his family to Van Dyne, WI to a countryside home with a greenhouse. He cherished his holiday and weekend parties with his family. He enjoyed gardening and listening to Opera music. His biggest source of joy was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Besides raising his five children, he also raised his oldest granddaughter, Nicole. Henry retired after 40 years as a Plant Engineer in the tanning industry. In 2015 Henry and Jean celebrated 57 years of marriage. He was the foundation of the Ruehl family and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his five children, Kathy (Ron) Robart, Mary (David) Lambert, Henry (Lisa) Ruehl, Cindy Iwen (Bill Schneider), and Tom (Trista) Rhuel. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Giesela, and nieces and nephews in Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brother, Gert; and his parents.
