Obituary for James Paul Wenzel

James Paul Wenzel, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. He was born in Chilton on September 3, 1938, the son of the late Benjamin and Sophia (Tikalsky) Wenzel. On February 27, 1968 he married his wife of 55 years, Nancy Maloney, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sherwood. He graduated from Hilbert High School in 1956. Jim was proud to serve in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. He travelled the carnival for many years where he was known to be a showman by ringing the highstriker with a maul in each hand. He also worked at Tecumseh and then later in construction. Jim was known to enjoy the occasional trip to the casino. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and for being quick with a joke.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy; children: Melanie (Gary) Gorges, Daniel (Kimberly) Wenzel, Benjamin Wenzel and Pamela (Steven) Verstoppen; grandchildren: Evelyn (Mitchell) Braun, Lillian Gorges, Logan and Quinn Wenzel, Josephine and Hazel Wenzel, and Sonja, Korben and Roman Verstoppen; brothers and sisters: Roselyn Vomberg, Harley (Ann) Wenzel, Angie Koehler, Victor (Greta) Wenzel, and Sidney (Penny) Wenzel; god-children: Mary Ellen Panzer, Vince Nettekoven, Cathy Vomberg, Mike Bangart and Mandy Baerenwald; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wallace, Benjamin, Allan and Donald; and sisters: Mary Ann and Geneva.

A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr., Winneconne, followed by military honors.
