Obituary for Jens Andersen

Jens “Rusty” Andersen, age 60, went to be with The Lord on Friday, August 5, 2022. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Jens was born in Oshkosh on March 27, 1962 to Frode and Karen (Lockwood) Andersen. He enjoyed sports in general and was an active bowler. He always enjoyed pitching for his church’s softball team.

If the Green Bay Packers were playing Jens was sure to be viewing the game whether on a bar stool or on a sofa. He especially enjoyed attending the games at Lambeau Field. His favorite memory was welcoming the players onto the field with coworkers from Time Warner Cable. Jens proudly volunteered at Lifest for more than a decade and was actively involved with Solutions Recovery Center.

He married Sandra Albrecht on August 13th 1983. Together they raised their sons Joshua and Jason in Oshkosh. Jens was an avid outdoorsman. He shared hunting and fishing with his father, friends, sons, and grandkids.

In October 2020 he married Deanna Scidmore barefoot on the beach in Woodruff, WI. By January 2021 he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Jens was such a trooper! He tolerated the Chemo treatments and surgeries with his chin up determined to win the battle!

Jens chose to live life to the fullest. He and Deanna drove their orange rag-top Jeep through Wisconsin to the U. P. of Michigan. They also drove through S. Dakota to Green River, WY and UT before returning to Wisconsin. Later they traveled to MA via Niagara Falls, NY in their Nissan Murano.

Jens was employed by Time Warner Cable in 1982. He saw many changes in telecommunications over the past 39 years. He was blessed to be able to take a step back from his career to concentrate on his health. He had always dreamt of ‘wintering in FL’. His wife Deanna introduced him to Flagler Beach, FL and Jens found his “happy place.” They returned to WI in April of this year to sell their home, preparing for the winter in FL. Over the summer he enjoyed camping, fishing, playing Cribbage, celebrating life and birthdays of family members. There were many more places he had hoped to travel to with Deanna. Their honeymoon was interrupted by trips to Froedtert in Wauwatosa and St. Elizabeth’s in Appleton.

“Rusty” is survived by his wife, Deanna Andersen; sons: Joshua (Jessica Kerr) and Jason (Michelle Dennis); step-son, Patrick Leichtnam; step-daughters: Rebekah (Steve) Beaudry and Suzanne Hildebrandt; grandchildren: Tyler, Wesley, Daxler, Serenity, Quinn and Patience Andersen; step-grandchildren: Blaketon, Isabelle, Genevieve and Bodin Leichtnam; brother, Jesse (Jean Books) Andersen; sister, Johanna Andersen; mother-in-law, Alice Scidmore; and nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A celebration of Jens’ life was held September 18, 2021 in Menominee Park, Oshkosh.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Froedtert of Wauwatosa, St. Elizabeth’s Appleton, or ThedaCare at Home Hospice.
