Obituary for Mary Margaret Werner (Koleske)

Mary Margaret (Koleske) Werner, was able to celebrate her birthday in glorious style in Heaven with the love of her life, David.
She was born December 13, 1930, in Appleton, WI to Henry and Clara (Casper) Koleske, where she was the youngest of three girls. Mary wanted to be a model and even did a modeling show in Chicago, but things changed while she was working at the movie theatre in Appleton when this handsome man, David, kept asking her out. After about two years of courting, they were married on May 5, 1951. They shared 60 years of wedded bliss before David’s passing on January 18, 2012. Mary always said they were meant to be because they were exactly 9 months apart. They had three wonderful children, Timothy (Sarah), Martha (Tom), and their best gift of all whom they adopted, Amy (Jeffrey).

Mary worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Top Brands, WROE and Hrnak’s in her younger years. She was the most loving mother and grandmother. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren having sleepovers, Disney vacations, and huge holiday get togethers.

One of her favorite times was having the grandchildren help her with Christmas Cookies. She always said, “If you want cookies, then you need to help or I’ll be like the Little Red Hen.”

As the years went on, Mary and David moved back into the home they loved with Amy and Jeff. Amy and Jeff vowed to keep them at home to the end. Mary lived nine years and eleven months with them, where they doted on her. About five years ago, granddaughters, Catrina and Emylee also came in to help with cares so Mary could stay home.

Mary fought a hard, long life with numerous health concerns, which she never complained about and had an incredible tolerance with the daily pain. Mary took her last breath just hours before her 91st birthday on December 12, 2021 with her ever loving daughter, Amy at her side.

The family expresses a huge amount of gratitude to Dr. Edwin, Ashley, and staff at ThedaCare Cancer Center, Dr. Okrah, Dr. Kaur, and Dr. Perry. The family was blessed to have Generations Home Care and Hospice guide them through Mary’s final journey, especially Lyndsey, Crystal, and Lindsey.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, David; son, Timothy; her beloved doxie, Ariel; parents; and sisters, Elizabeth Marks and Margaret Barker, along with numerous other family members.

Surviving her memory are her children, Marty (Tom) Hoth, her loving and caring Amy Bug (Jeffrey) Werner, daughter-in-law, Sarah; grandchildren, Jesse (Shannon) Weirnik, Elizabeth (Travis) Nagle, Clarissa (Ashley) Velasquez, Brigitta (Vincent) Rodriguez, Taylor Werner, Charlene (Teddy) Alecos, Catrina (Hunter Mares) Werner, Emylee (Bobby) Grim, Grady Butzlaff and Jordan Butzlaff; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, Drake, Charlotte, Rylan, Sawyer, Kaylie, Baby Rodriguez, Coraline, Alexander, Jace, Orin, Raelynn and Evelynn.

A visitation will be held at Fox Cities Funeral Home, 3026 Jackson Street, Oshkosh on Wednesday, December 22, from 12pm to 1pm with the service beginning at 1pm. Guests are encouraged to wear a mask and sanitize upon arriving.

In memory of Mary, the family is requesting red be worn to the funeral.
