Obituary for Maurice Kelvis Johnson Sr.

Maurice “Budd Sr.” K. Johnson Sr., age 52, passed away on March 5, 2024, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was born to parents, Kenneth and Jeanette (Flynn) Johnson Sr, on November 28, 1971, in Indiana.

He met his wife in the WCC neighborhood. On April 7, 2003, he married Betty Fisher in Crown Point, Indiana. Together, they raised two children. In 2005, they relocated to Oshkosh, Wisconsin to start new careers. He worked at Valley Express transport until his passing.

Maurice loved reading, watching the Green Bay Packers football team, and playing board games- especially Dominos on family game nights. Maurice also cooked the best holiday dressing.  Maurice will be deeply missed, he was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was also very proud of his son Maurice Jr., and his daughter Makayla “Suga Bear Johnson.” He will be remembered for being generous, and always looked out for others even in death by saving lives through organ donation.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Fisher) Johnson; daughter, Makayla Janaì  Johnson; brothers, Kevin Johnson, Kenneth (Dana) Johnson Jr., Michael Johnson and Marcus Johnson; sisters, Antoinette (Kenny) McGuire, Veda Johnson and Felicia Johnson; brothers-

in-law, Lewis Fisher, and Roosevelt (Katina) Fisher; sisters-in-law, Dianna Fisher, and Priscilla Fisher; many cousins; nieces; nephews.

Preceding him in death was his son, Maurice Johnson Jr.; his parents, Kenneth Johnson Sr. and Jeanette (nee Flynn) Mitchell; In-laws, L.C. Fisher and Rosemary Bonds-Fisher; sister, Tracie Johnson; sister-in-law, Barbara Fisher; brothers-in-law, Ollie Fisher Sr. and Larry Fisher; and great-niece, Zola Williams.


Visitation will be on Friday. March 15, 2024 at the Saint Homes Church of God and Christ, 833 E 21st Ave #2706, Gary, Indiana, 46407, from 10:00am to 11:00am, with service to follow at church. His final resting place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, 4450 Harrison St., Gary, Indiana, 46408.
