Obituary for Sally Jane Tarala

Sally Tarala, age 91, passed away on April 17, 2024, with her family and friends. She was expressing her love while in the arms of her daughter as she made her journey to heaven.

She was born at Appleton Medical Center on January 12, 1933 to Charles and Jeanette (Macintyre)Hilgenberg. She was raised in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Sally wed Clarence Tarala and together, they raised four children. Terry (Don) Matejowec of Louisville, Kentucky, Tim (Susan) Tarala of Sheboygan, Troy Tarala of Oshkosh and Tammi (Bob) Spierings of Little Chute. Sally was very loved by her twelve grandchildren, Guy Lux, Darcie Lux, Brandon Miller, Brittany Collette, Jack Ackmann, Casey Kolodzik, Frankie Malone, Samantha Tarala, Cody Christian, Angela Tarala and Tana Tarala; and several great-grandchildren, including the newest addition that is due to arrive in September 2024. She is further survived by sister, Claire (Monroe) Schneider. Her fur-baby and loyal companion “Tippy” will also miss her very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and siblings, Ann (Duane) Heindle and Carl (Jinna) Hilgenberg.

Sally and Clarence enjoyed spending time with their family at the cottage at Lake Poygan. She loved to swim and suntan. This passion carried on as she moved to California and broadened her horizons. She was also very fond of the horseraces. One of the last stories she shared was of a bet she made, as she wanted to buy a very expensive jacket. She smiled and said, “Guess what, I won and got my jacket!”

In addition, she was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. The past few years she always looked forward to Friday fish fry’s and dinners with her son. The things she enjoyed most were a simple cup of coffee, cards, shopping and conversation. She loved to bake sweets and goodies and share them with her neighbor friends. There were many kids in Winneconne who she enjoyed chatting with that would call her Sal. They considered her a friend and loved by many.

Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life, details are soon to come. They would also like to thank each and everyone that touched her life in so many ways.

She was very special to many people. “Sally may be gone, but never forgotten!”
