The Lord saw that it was time to take Wally home. Walter J. Oppermann, 95, passed away in Neenah, WI on September 15, 2021. He was born on April 9, 1926, to Frieda (Heberer) and Walter A. Oppermann in Milwaukee, WI. He met the love of his life, Joyce Flansburg while they were in school at Madison. On June 30, 1951, they were married, and Walter started his career with Marathon Corporation.
Wally proudly served in the US Army during WWII and held the rank of first lieutenant at the age of 18. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as other church activities. Wally and Joyce treasured the time at their cottage in northern WI and being with their good friends throughout his life.
He is survived by his children, Todd Oppermann, Neenah, Sue Oppermann, Appleton and Terry (Susan Schneider) Oppermann, Naperville, IL; grandchildren, Andrew (Sunniva Sortland Halas) Oppermann, and Elise Oppermann. He is further survived by his brother, Harold Oppermann; brother-in-law, Ron Flansburg; sister-in-law, Jean Flansburg; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Preceding him in death, his wife of 66 years, Joyce Oppermann; sisters, Jean Rismeyer and June Rathke; sister-in-law, Kathy Oppermann; brothers-in-law, Ray Rismeyer, and Cliff Rathke.
Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 1228 S. Park Ave, Neenah on Saturday October 9, 2021. Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at 11am. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Peace Lutheran Church in honor of Wally.
