Obituary for Debra May Terry

Debra May Terry
Indian Point, Town of Vinland—Your Mom & Dad Miss you and it is time to be with them again. Dear Ralph & Marge I give her back to you, that you may provide for her the love to which she has become accustomed, until I see you all again. Debby passed on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in her home that she built with her husband Mike Gavronski.

Debby was born May 29, 1955 in Beloit, WI to Marjorie Louise (Smith) Terry and Ralph James Terry, Sr.

Your mother Marge is one of the sweetest ladies ever, even when cheating at the family card game, “Oh Hell”, and then readily admitting it. At the cottage in Orihula, Marge would swim the length of the channel and back again, truly “Terry Tuff”. The merit badges on Debby’s Girl Scout sash are a testimonial to a mother guiding and teaching her daughter to always be prepared. Kindness to all and a ready willingness to help anyone who may need it, even strangers, are traits shared by mother and daughter. Debby you are Marge’s daughter and the world is better because of you both.

Traveling to Cairo, your father Ralph’s letters in hand, letters he had written to Marge while stationed in North Africa during WWII serving as the itinerary, to pay tribute to a great man and father. Ralph’s letters truly showed a man with a gift for words and his mind’s eye could retain detail with amazing accuracy. Debby often said her dad was looking out for her and that is why when crazy things happened it always seemed to work out. She missed her dad.

Debby graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in June, 1973. She went on to the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh where she earned a B.S. in Finance.

Debra owned and operated Terry & Associates, the Safeguard Business Systems distributor in northeastern Wisconsin for over 23 years. At the beginning, friends were her customers, as the years passed all her customers were friends. Visiting customers and calling on prospects is how she spent her days, paperwork and preparing for tomorrow’s sales call is how she spent her evenings. Deb was an annual recipient of awards at the Safeguard conferences. Her Safeguard friends, Marty, Phil and Dana to mention a few, always at her side, she was the life of the party when the work was done. Deb retired in July, 2015.

Deb and Mike were married March 2, 1999 at the Alta Lakes Observatory just outside Telluride, Colorado. The Observatory at 11,000+ feet and Palmyra Peak as the backdrop for this night of the full moon, it was “Perfect” in Deb’s words. Deb & Mike purchased their ski house in the “Ski Ranches” located one ridge over from the ski runs. It is a place built for sharing with family and friends and most of the time was spent doing just that, but a more glorious place for just Mike & Deb to enjoy each other never existed. Ski season was grand, free lessons “for Life” with Al, the sunny rides on the chairlift and the beer breaks at “The Beach”. The magic of Telluride really came out at sunset. It started with the alpenglow and grew as darkness set in and the stars filled the sky all while the sound of the “Blues & Brews” artists reminded you why you came here in the first place.

Private services for the family will be held in Folly Beach, South Carolina and Telluride, Colorado. A celebration of Deb’s life will be held on November 3, 2018. Hosted at their home 5867 I Ah May tah Road, Oshkosh, by her husband Mike Gavronski, Ozzie & Dewey (“the boys”) and Deb’s family: Ralph and Diane Terry, Tom and Karen Terry, Nephew: Matt and Lauren Terry, Nieces: Sabrina Terry Oleen, husband Ben and boys Hudson & Austin, Maureen Terry Johnston, husband Mike, Chelsea Terry and her true love Cyrus Alexander, Lindsey Terry and boys Ryder & Kayden, Marissa Terry and her fiancée Nathan Dumbleton.
