Obituary for James Alecos

James S. Alecos, age 68, died Tuesday evening, November 4, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born October 7, 1935 in Greece the son of Sava and Anna Marie Charmelithou Alecos. He came to the United States not knowing the language at the age of 16, and became a U.S. Citizen. Jim married Phyllis Hodnett on October 13, 1968 at- the Greek Orthodox Church in Racine. Jim had worked various jobs in the restaurant business before opening and operating his first restaurant in Kenosha, WI. Together, with his wife, Jim owned and operated the Delta Restaurant in Oshkosh for 18 years, retiring in 2000. Jim was a self made man and a hard worker who had not only a deep passion for his restaurant, but for people as well.

Jim is lovingly survived and will be deeply missed by his wife: Phyllis, sons; Demetrius, Theodoros and Spiro, 2 grandchildren: Zoie and Tearra, brother: Tony (Anna) Alecos of Racine, nieces and nephews: Heidi, Domanik and Sava. Jim is further survived by a dear family friend: Debbie Cavanaugh, other relatives, friends, and many loyal customers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy St., Fond du Lac, WI from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Peter Pappademetriou officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Oshkosh, WI. In keeping with Jim’s passion for people, memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Fr. Carr’s Place 2 B or any local food pantry.
