Obituary for Kenneth L. Rhode Sr.

Kenneth L. Rhode, age 85, of Oshkosh, passed away on December 10, 2016. He was born on December 12, 1930 to Leonard and Anna (Winkelbauer) Rhode. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950 where he was a star football player on the championship football team. After high school he joined the Army and was a parachuter for the 187th Airborne during the Korean War. After returning home he married Dolores “Tootie” Flater on August 28, 1954. He played football for the Oshkosh Comets. They had two children, Vickie and Ken, Jr. Ken worked at Buckstaffs, the State Hospital, Klinger Painting and retired from Rockwell International in 1992. Ken enjoyed being involved with his son’s drag racing motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends during the races. He also took many trips with his wife and family on his own Honda Motorcycle. Ken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores; son, Ken Jr. (Janet); brother-in law; Orville (Joyce) Flater; step-grandchildren: Kurt (Rose ) Andrasko, Kari Andrasko, Sara (Kevin) Weitz; great-grandchildren: Corrisa, Ashley, Drayden, Easton and Korbin; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Lana and John Kroll, Dave and Sheila Stanbery, Gayle and Robin Adams, Harry and Gloria Elkins, and Herman Family. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vicki; brothers-in-law: Don Flater and Emery Johnson; and special friends, Russ and Dolly Herman. A private family service will be held. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Parkview Health Center for their wonderful care.
