Leonard “Lenny” Himmler, age 79, of Oshkosh, went home to his eternal rest on Saturday, September 17, 2016, with his loving wife, Karon, and his best little friend, Snoopy, the rescue dog, at his side. Born May 15, 1937, the son of May Hartwell and Herbert Himmler of Oshkosh, Lenny graduated from St. Peter Catholic School in 1952 and Oshkosh High School in 1956. He was very active in sports, lettering in basketball, football, and track. He shared his beautiful tenor voice in the acappella choir, boy’s quartet, and many school operettas. After graduation, he applied for and was hired that very day at the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, where he worked 42 years, starting as a printer apprentice, until retiring in April 1999. He was also Union President and President of the Northwestern Credit Union. Lenny was the last to work in hot metal printing. Lenny married the love of his life, Karon K. Evanson, daughter of Newell and Irean (Tadych) Evanson on October 22, 1960. In 1961 he was activated to serve in the Cuban Conflict where he received medals for his skilled marksmanship. Lenny was active in bowling, fixing bicycles in his garage, watching old westerns, playing cards with family and friends, and enjoying the Green Bay Packers. He co-owned H2O Laundry-mat and Himmler’s Sewing Machine Sales and Repairs with his wife, Karon, for over 30 years. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Karon; their children, John Himmler of Colorado, Donald (Alice) Himmler of Van Dyne, Shaune (Alan) Augsburger of Oshkosh, and like-a-daughter, Julia Hanson of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Jacob and Hailey Himmler, Heather (fiancé, Josh Persching) Himmler, Trisha Himmler, Alexis Ruppel, Andrew, Hannah, James Buege, and Andy Augsburger: great-grandson, Noah Persching; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Jack) Oliver of Pickett, Merle (Grady) Kirksey of Dallas, Texas, Marie Evanson of Kansas City, Kansas, Charlotte Himmler of Tomahawk, and Janet Himmler of Oshkosh; and a special friend, Tess Rozek of Oshkosh. Also surviving are many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a very loving, happy, kind, soft spoken gentleman who loved life till the end. Preceding Lenny in death are his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, siblings, Delores, Ellen, Robert, Harry, Herbert, John, Joan, Agnes, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Ronnie Evanson. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016, in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue, with Father James Jugenheimer officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. at the church. Full Military Honors will be given following the service. Per Lenny’s request, a memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers. I would like to send a special thank you to Dr. William Weber and the entire wound clinic staff at Mercy Medical Center for their kind and tender care of the love of my life, “Lenny.” Dad—I use to be your angel, now, you’re mine. Love always—Daddy’s little girl, ShauneLenny—my true love, now and forever, I am so heart-broken you have left me and my love for you will never stop. God had a plan for you and now I have to wait till He sends for me. I will hear your beautiful voice singing, your big blue eyes twinkling, a big, big smile and your strong arms waiting to hold me as you welcome me home. Till we meet again, thank you for our family and all the love we have shared together. “See you in a little,” Karon, (your “Miss” “America”)Lenny—our love, hugs, and kisses to you now and forever. We deeply miss you more today than yesterday but less than all the tomorrows. Until we meet again, “Happy Trails,” Jack and Sharon
