Obituary for Ronald Stiemsma

Ronald D. Stiemsma, age 77 of Oshkosh, died November 5, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. Ron was born August 26, 1936, in Cambria, Wisconsin the son of the late Carl and Agnes (Oastra) Stiemsma. A 1954 graduate of Randolph High School, he graduated with a BS from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, and later earned a MS in vocational counseling from UW-Milwaukee. Ron worked for Dodge County social services and with the Fond du Lac Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for most of his adult life retiring in 1998.
Ron married Barbara Heeringa in 1959, and they became the parents of four sons in their 19 years of marriage. In 1980, Ron married Jill Klotz Wolff; while they separated in 2004, they remained good friends. Most recently Ron shared his life with Margaret Chester of Oshkosh and their cat Jaeda. All three survive Ron.
Ron spent many years as a volunteer treasurer for the Randolph Christian School. After moving to Fond du Lac, he spent years as a volunteer at local AODA club houses and on addiction hotlines. He was treasurer of the building fund that brought the present Gratitude Club to fruition and served as its director for many years. In recent years his love was his motorcycle. But, for most of his adult life Ron loved to camp, attend music concerts, play cribbage, and travel. Ron and Jill traveled to China, Costa Rica, Aruba, Mexico, the Caribbean, and much of the United States. Ron also treasured time reading Stephen King novels.
Other survivors include his four sons: Dave ( Jennifer) of Racine, Scot (Joan), Tim ( Louri), and Ryan ( Michelle Ryan) all of Fond du Lac, five grandchildren; Paul Schultz, Rachael Luna, Riley, Bryce, and Hannah Stiemsma, three great grandchildren; Mason, Miguel, and Emilio Luna, his sister Jeanette Bos of Waupun, and his very special friend Lori Peterson.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Ervin, and two sisters; Ann Fischer and Josie Leystra.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 9, 2013 at the Gratitude Club, 295 Ruggles St. Fond du Lac from 1:00 p.m. until the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be beside his parents at a later date.
